Eco-Friendly Behaviors Done by Australians: Getting the Habits Right Christin Hakim, February 25, 2025February 25, 2025 Building sustainable habits is a collective action that requires awareness and involvement of the people. Australia is one of the countries that leads this movement, where most of the population has been implementing sustainability behaviors in several aspects. According to a report published by Statista[1] in 2024, some sustainable behaviors done by Australian consumers when shopping include recycling product waste, buying local products, or bringing their own shopping bags. The data indicates that 80 percent of the shoppers practice eco-green behaviors during April to June 2024. The numbers are then divided into several categories, as follows: 79% of the shoppers bring their own shopping bags when they go to the grocery store or local vendors. This habit follows the government regulation to ban plastic or disposable bags in public markets. Another key element to prevent the effect of climate change is to buy local products. Fruits, foods, and groceries bought from local vendors would cut short the emissions caused by the distribution process. In the statistics, 43% of shoppers in Australia support this movement. Next category in this list, sitting at 43%, is reducing new product purchases. Doing small things like using recyclable utensils and bags could bring benefits to nature more than you think. Bringing water bottles instead of buying bottled water frequently is also a good way to start bringing change. Also, 65% of them recycle the waste of their product. The effectiveness of the recycling program will be achieved when the involvement of both parties, the consumers and the sellers, is present. Getting the habits right is not only about responsible actions in how people shop. It’s also important to consider the quality of the products they purchase and the effects that they might cause. One of the eco-friendly products experiencing growing demand in Australia is tissue and paper[2]. The need for sustainable and eco-friendly hygiene tissue and paper products is rising steadily as consumers increasingly prioritize environmentally responsible choices[3]. Among these eco-friendly options are Livi, Sorbent, and Handee Ultra, Australia’s top kitchen towel. One of key product is Sorbent, a high-quality tissue product in Australia, that maintains a strategic alliance with APP Group. Through the partnership with APP Group, Sorbent prioritizes sustainability at the forefront of its operations. From adapting zero deforestation policy, forest conservation, and innovating with the product by made a biodegradable product. The company adopts innovative environmental practices on a global scale.[4] Sorbent, in collaboration with its strategic supply partner APP Group, actively promotes the use of responsibly cultivated and managed Rapidly Renewable Fibre (RRF) plantations. These plantations utilize fast-growing Eucalyptus and Acacia trees, which reach maturity and are ready for harvest within 6 to 8 years. This accelerated growth cycle allows for higher paper yields from fewer resources, using less land and time.[5] On average, over 80% of Sorbent based products are derived from these trees. Virgin RRF-based products offer a superior quality compared to recycled paper, delivering a whiter, brighter, and softer finish—making them the smarter choice for toiletries solutions. As a producer of pulp and paper products used globally, sustainability lies at the core of APP Group’s business. Paper-based products are biodegradable, recyclable, and environmentally friendly. Combined with responsible forest management practices, APP Group delivers sustainable products that contribute to a better future.
