In Oregon’s hot real estate market, every home for sale gets attention. But in 2021, some residential properties really stood out.
The state’s most viewed online listings on Realtor.com this year ranged from oddball to oceanfront, cut-rate teardowns to over-the-top mansions.
The top 25 most popular Oregon homes include an oceanfront glass house in Cannon Beach, a fixer-upper on a bad foundation in Medford and the perennial favorite, a low-profile dome in Eugene that looks as if space aliens used it to crash-land on Earth.
Here’s the Oregonian/OregonLive’s 2021 edition of the most viewed listings according to web traffic data provided by Realtor.com:
Movie location: 84 W. Duane St. in Astoria sold for $244,000 on Dec. 10, 2021. The fixer-upper with views of the Columbia River was a location in the 1986 movie “Short Circuit.”
The 1889 farmhouse in Clatsop County has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,938 square feet of living space. The 7,405-square-foot lot is surrounded by natural privacy, said listing agent Kati Perry of eXp Realty.
“This gem is waiting for its new owners to complete the remodel process and make this beauty their own,” added Perry, who sold the property “as is,” with the seller refusing to make any fixes or improvements.
Oceanfront glass house: 80644 Highway 101 in Cannon Beach sold for $4,995,000 on Sept. 29, 2021.
The contemporary-style house in Clatsop County was built in 2013 at a cost of more than $6 million, according to listing agent Dirk Hmura of Eleete Real Estate.
Bora Architecture & Interiors designed the glass, slab stone and steel structure to connect to its one-acre setting with access to the beach.
Green Gables Design & Restoration built the home with two bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 3,348 square feet of living space.
“Unparalleled quality, design, construction and finishes,” stated Hmura, who worked with Jessica Corcoran of Eleete Real Estate.
Cash-only fixer-upper: 1383 Highcrest Dr. in Medford is for sale at $217,000.
The contemporary house with a daylight basement, built in 1979 on 0.36 acres in Jackson County, has two living rooms, four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 3,144 square feet of living space.
“This home is a great fixer with lots of potential,” said listing agent Bradley Farrell of Coldwell Banker Cutting Edge. “This house will not finance due to foundation issues.”
Extraterrestrial-like shelter: 84154 Lorane Highway in Eugene was listed for sale at $350,000 on July 19, 2021.
The insulated, reinforced concrete monolithic dome, built in 2009 on 3.78 acres of sloped and wooded land in Lane County, has one bedroom, one bathroom and 855 square feet of living space.
“Cash offers only. Buyer to do due diligence,” stated the listing.
Potential dividable lot: 3860 W. Prospect Ave. in Hood River sold for $999,994 on Aug. 2, 2021.
The multi-story house, built in 1999 on 0.56 acres with views of Underwood Mountain and Mount Adams, is now for sale by owner at $1.5 million.
A transaction for the Hood River County property in March 2020 listed the sale price at $200,000, according to public records.
“Live large on the Westside in this immaculate, single owner home,” said the seller. “Possibility to divide lot.”
The 5,507-square-foot house has two gas fireplaces, five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, an office and an in-law suite with a separate entrance.
Custom, high-end finishes include hardwood floors, solid wood cabinets and granite counters in a kitchen with stainless-steel appliances.
There is a wraparound deck, hot tub, mature landscaping and an oversized garage.
Stone importer’s mansion: 9912 N.W. Wind Ridge Dr. in Portland’s Forest Park neighborhood is for sale at $7,778,500.
The towering modern mansion, built in 2001 on 9.74 gated acres in Multnomah County, was designed by architect Ned Vaivoda, formerly of Thompson Vaivoda & Architects, now TVA Architects.
Three levels of steel and concrete rise from the ground against a ridge. The front of the house has split Travertine walls, reflecting the original owner’s profession as Portland’s leading stone importer.
The back of the dwelling has expansive glass panels. The design offers views of the Cascade mountains while maintaining privacy on the land that borders Forest Park.
The residence has five fireplaces, an indoor pool, sound-proof music room, four bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and 11,363 square feet of living space. There is also a guest apartment over the six-car garage.

Waterfront Lake Oswego estate: 1500 Northshore Road in Lake Oswego was listed for $11.5 million on Sept. 7, 2021.
The waterfront mansion on the lip of Oswego Lake was built in 2006 on 0.66 acres in Clackamas County.
The three-level mansion has a basalt rock exterior and copper-framed windows. Inside are five bedrooms, six bathrooms, three powder rooms and 13,462 square feet of living space.
Two boat lifts can be accessed from inside the residence.
A covered outdoor entertainment area includes a built-in grill and fireplace. Two waterfalls and an infinity pool are part of the landscaping.
Portland Heights fixer: 2909 S.W. Upper Dr. in Portland’s Southwest Hills sold for $351,500 on March 26, 2021.
The traditional-style house, built in 1912 on one acre in Multnomah County, has English oak hardwood floors, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,824 square feet of living space.
“Beautiful Craftsman remodel in Portland Heights,” said listing agent Lorna Murray of RE/MAX Equity Group.
Massive log house: 35400 Highway 101 in Gold Beach is for sale at $11,900,000.
The oceanfront house, built in 2011 on 28.17 acres in Curry County, is reminiscent of the Gilded Age’s Adirondack Great Camps, wilderness estates built in the New York mountains by the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts and other financial titans.
Only this estate has a private helipad and beach access. Inside are floor-to-ceiling windows, a 35-foot-tall river rock fireplace, four bedrooms, five bathrooms and 10,000 square feet of living space.
There is also a separate guest house, two barns and a shop.
“Enormous living spaces throughout. [The structure has] old-growth logs imported from Canada [and a] rich combination of quartzite and hand scraped acacia wood floors,” said listing agent Marie Curtis of RE/MAX Coast and Country.
Fixer-upper on Yaquina Bay: 3823 Yaquina Bay Road in Newport sold for $495,000 on June 7, 2021.
The two-story house, built in 1950 on 2.04 acres in Lincoln County, was sold in as-is condition. Inside, there’s wood flooring, four bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,435 square feet of living space.
Outside, there is a composite deck and a smaller deck accessible from an upstairs bedroom. A small fish pond is near the front entry and a large concrete pad is on the side of the home.
“Very private setting perched on an elevated flat spot with incredible views of the Yaquina Bay and River,” stated marketing materials.
Haystack Rock bungalow: 1956 S. Hemlock St. in Cannon Beach sold for $760,000 on Dec. 2, 2021.
The bungalow, built in 1969 on a 7,405-square-foot lot in Clatsop County, has two bedrooms, one bathroom and 1,503 square feet of living space. There is also a large deck for al fresco entertaining.
“Spectacular, unobstructed views of Haystack Rock, Tillamook Lighthouse and the ocean from nearly every room,” said listing agent Donna Wicher of Donna C. Wicher Real Estate.
Furnished floating house: 535 N.E. Bridgeton Road Slip 4 in Portland’s Bridgeton neighborhood sold for $187,200 on Aug. 31, 2021.
The floating house, built in 1940 and moored in a marina along the Columbia River in Multnomah County, has a metal roof and updated interior with one bedroom, one bathroom and 607 square feet of living space.
“Waterfront living at Kappler’s Moorage. Park your boat, kayak or canoe directly in front of your new home. Watch fireworks and holiday ships from your living room,” said listing agent Mary Nguyen with Chrissy Tese-Moe of Premiere Property Group.
Potential Airbnb rental: 92862 Highway 202 in Astoria is for sale for $534,900.
The recently remolded house, built in 1930 on 0.32 acres in Clatsop County, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,600 square feet of living space. There is a large basement and the backyard borders the waterfront.
“Enjoy the fantastic bay view for all seasons,” said listing agent Jin Zhao of Kelly Right Real Estate of Portland. “A vacation home, short-term rental or Airbnb?”
Mansion with indoor pool: 195 W. Kensington Ave. in Astoria is for sale at $3,995,000.
The custom house, built in 2001 in Clatsop County, has river and mountain views, six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, two powder rooms and 11,552 square feet of living space.
There is also a guest suite, indoor pool, gym, theater, tanning room, sauna and billiard room. Tiered landscaping and a sport court are part of the 0.76-acre property.
“The perfect choice for serene privacy with the potential for large-scale entertaining,” said listing agent Leigh Mortlock of eXp Realty with Deb Stenvall.
Cash-only teardown: 99331 S. Bank Chetco Road in Brookings sold for $180,000 on Sept. 20, 2021.
The single-story house, built in 1962 on 1.1 acres with a creek in Curry County, has a bonus room, two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and 904 square feet of living space.
“This [home] can be repaired or you can remove it and build a new home or [install a] manufactured home,” said listing agent Jude Hodge of RE/MAX Coast and Country. “The Salmon Run Golf Course is within walking distance.”
Low-cost multifamily housing: 61383 Old Wagon Road in Coos Bay sold as-is for $204,400 cash on May 13, 2021.
The 1910 house and five rental units with views of Catching Slough share the 22.88-acre property in Coos County. The combined 4,668 square feet of living space includes seven bedrooms and four bathrooms.
“Launch a kayak, paddle board or just enjoy the sweet serenity of rural living,” said listing agent Joe Bollig of Pacific Properties.
Erosion-impacted oceanfront house: 525 N.W. 57th St. in Newport sold for $162,000 on April 23, 2021.
The two-story house, built in 1981 on a 4,791-square-foot lot, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,336 square feet of living space.
The Lincoln County property has coastline views from Newport’s Agate Beach to Otter Rock’s Cape Foulweather headland. White water waves and Pacific Ocean sunsets can be seen from almost every room in the house, according to marketing materials.
“Due to erosion, the home needs to be moved to the back of the lot as other homes in the area have done,” said the listing agent. “Price is adjusted to allow for this cost. Cash buyers only. As-is sale.”
Cottage with an extra lot: 88336 Highway 101 in Florence was for sale at $147,500.
The single-level house, built in 1930 on 0.61 acres in Lane County, has three bedrooms, one bathroom and 960 square feet of living space.
“Great opportunity to own a cute cottage in Florence with an extra lot behind it. Bring your tools and your ideas,” stated marketing materials.
Vaulted-ceiling townhome: 1163 S.W. 160th Ave. in Beaverton sold for $332,000 on Nov 4, 2020.
The two-story townhouse, built in 2003 as the end-unit in Merlo Station in Washington County, has a gas fireplace, three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 1,487 square feet of living space. There is also a two-car garage.
“Dining room has a slider to the deck perfect for barbecuing. Primary bedroom has vaulted ceilings,” said listing agent Jennifer Turner with Betsy Shand of Lovejoy Real Estate.
Rural teardown: 95791 Coos Sumner Lane in Coos Bay was listed for $149,500 on Aug. 3, 2021.
The single-level house, built in 1938 and renovated in 1950, has four bedrooms, one bathroom and 1,345 square feet of living space.
The 3.29-acre property in Coos County has a well, electricity and a septic system.
“Investment opportunity. The house is believed to be a teardown, buyer’s agent to verify all information. Great value within the land. Build your dream home on this country setting,” according to marketing materials.
Rustic cabin in the woods: A 1.2-acre residential property in Otis in Lincoln County was listed for $299,000 on April 24, 2021.
The main house, built in 1960, has a sunroom, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,214 square feet of living space. There is also a cabin on the property.
“Private forest retreat with tons of trees and a fire pit. Cash or rehab. Live in the house and rent out the cabin,” said listing agent.
Custom home with ocean views: 88526 3rd Ave. in Florence sold for $610,000 on Nov. 2, 2021.
The three-level house, built in 1990 on a 6,098-square-foot lot in Lane County, has four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 3,206 square feet of living space.
“Don’t let the amount of days on market stop you from calling this place home. It may be a great opportunity for a vacation rental. Only one owner since it was built,” said listing agent Adrian Gonsalez of Keller Williams Realty Eugene and Springfield.
Shared beach condo: A three-week annual share of 33000 Cape Kiwanda Unit 9 in Pacific City was listed for $47,500 on Dec. 1, 2020.
The unit, built in 2007 in Tillamook County, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 985 square feet of living space.
“Hassle-free, worry-free, maintenance-free,” said the listing agent, who added that taxes and insurance are included in the $4,224 a year homeowners association fees.
Unfinished house: 93646 McKenna Lane in Coos Bay is for sale at $150,000.
The fixer-upper, built in 1939 on a 4,792-square-foot lot in Coos County, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,848 square feet of living space.
Needed work includes installing siding to an exterior wall and finishing under the eaves. Inside, the stairs need a banister, a spot only has a subfloor, an area is missing drywall and a bathroom is unfinished.
“A ceiling was removed to fit bunks,” added listing agent Steve Stalcup of Sea Winds Realty.
New modern farmhouse: 8104 S.W. 39th Ave. in Portland sold for $925,000 on Dec. 3, 2021.
The Prairie style, two-story house, built in 2021 on a 6,098-square-foot lot in Multnomah Village, has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,579 square feet of living space.
There is a covered patio, fenced backyard and a builder warranty, said listing agent Darryl Bodle with Kelly Christian of Keller Williams Realty Portland Premiere.
